Alaska’s Tordrillo Mountain Lodge Reopens With New Luxe Experiences

Tordrillo Mountain Lodge in Alaska will open for the summer season on June 4 with a range of new outdoor adventures including heli-fishing, hiking on glaciers, scaling the world’s most remote (and Alaska’s only) via ferrata and more. Among those other options are snorkeling with salmon, whitewater rafting, water sports on the resort’s private Judd Lake, float plane adventures to see brown bears at the national parks, cold lake plunges, warm soaks in the lakeside hot tub under the midnight sun, and more.

Here are a few highlights of the luxury adventure resort’s summer offerings:

New this summer, Tordrillo Mountain Lodge has announced a partnership with EYOS, which provides private superyacht expeditions, offering two experiences for a land and sea perspective of Alaska. Guests will begin their journey in coastal Alaska, with seven nights aboard Hanse Explorer, followed by four nights at Tordrillo Mountain Lodge. The yacht takes guests into glacial waterways, through forests and fjords, offering chances for guests to kayak narrow inlets, hike temperate rainforests and observe humpback whales and Steller sea lions in their natural habitat. At Tordrillo Mountain Lodge, guests can enjoy heli-fishing, whitewater rafting and go flightseeing in Tordrillo’s own Turbine Otter to Denali, Katmai and Lake Clark National Parks.

Summer begins in June at Tordrillo Mountain Lodge with the resort’s month-long “Kings and Corn” program, where guests can heli-ski in the morning and fly-fish for salmon, rainbow trout and grayling in the late afternoon. Only available at Tordrillo Mountain Lodge, the five-day experience includes a round-trip, private float plane trip from Anchorage to Tordrillo Mountain Lodge, five days of heli skiing, riding and fishing, gourmet meals and evening adventures on Judd Lake (stand up paddleboarding, foil boarding, canoeing and kayaking under the June midnight sun).

With private use of the resort’s own Otter plane and National Park permits, guests of Tordrillo Mountain Lodge have the opportunity to experience three national parks, including Katmai and Lake Clark, which are among the least visited due to the difficult nature of accessing them. Guests can view brown bears at Katmai’s Brooks Falls and have lunch at a remote beach at Lake Clark National Park all in the same day.

According to Tordrillo Mountain Lodge’s staff, September is an ideal time to visit Alaska. It is known for being the most colorful month of the year, with bright fall colors and berries on the vibrant tundra, the first glimpses of “termination dust” (the local term for the first snowfall in the mountains), and wildlife viewing as the moose and bears prepare for winter. September is also an incredible time to fish in Alaska, when all five species of salmon are back in the local waters, and the trout fishing is the best of the year. Fall nights are also perfect for viewing the Northern Lights.

Summer packages include round-trip transportation from Anchorage to Tordrillo Mountain Lodge via the resort’s private float plane; daily heli-excursions for fishing, hiking, rafting or via ferrata; unlimited lodge activities; one massage per adult; fully outfitted and expert-led adventures; gourmet meals from the resort’s private chef; and overnight accommodations in Anchorage on arrival day.
