Badrutt’s Palace in St. Moritz Reveals Guestroom Renovation

Badrutt’s Palace Hotel in St. Moritz, Switzerland reopened its doors in December for the winter season with 40 newly revamped rooms and suites following an extensive renovation in partnership with New York design studio Champalimaud.

The vision of the Badrutt’s Palace and of Champalimaud was to enhance the in-room experience for the modern guest, while preserving the iconic heritage of the hotel (which opened in 1896). The result is transformed spaces, which are “sophisticated and functional yet authentic and unique.”

The new room and suite categories include Deluxe Double Rooms, Signature Double Rooms, St. Moritz Suites (including the St. Moritz Two Bedroom Suite), plus Deluxe Junior Suites with lake views and Superior Double Rooms with village views. Created to host families or individuals seeking long-term stays, the renovated accommodations either have connecting sitting rooms or offer the option to connect with an adjacent room. The new lighting gives the spaces a warm ambiance, and every room has new technology, such as a Chromecast TV streaming and 5G network coverage. Rooms and suites are also equipped with the latest Dyson air purifiers.

The interiors are designed using a color palette of creamy whites and shades of blue, inspired by the surrounding Alpine scenery. The spaces are embellished with tailor-made, embroidered fabrics, custom chinoiserie wall coverings, and metallic accents. The headboards were made using custom-dyed premium leather and the embroidery detailing imitates flowers from the region. The contemporary furniture has been custom-made in Italy using locally sourced materials and features alongside period pieces, such as credenzas that were collected by second-generation owner, Hans Badrutt. Other standouts, sourced from Hans Badrutt’s collection, are the rare Persian carpets and a large crystal chandelier in the St. Moritz Suite, which is made from natural, uncut quartz and hand-rubbed brass.

Tip: All winter season bookings will benefit from the hotel’s flexible booking policy, allowing cancellations up to seven days prior to arrival. The winter season will run to April 6, 2021.
