Mandarin Oriental this December has announced two new properties in the pipeline: The management and ownership of a hotel a in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to open in 2021, and in Zurich, Switzerland, set to open in 2024.
About the former: Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group signed an agreement with the Al Khozama Company to manage and brand the Al Faisaliah Hotel, Riyadh. The group will take over the management in the first quarter of 2021. Currently, the hotel is undergoing an extensive guestroom and public area renovation, which will be completed at the end of 2021—after which, it will be rebranded Mandarin Oriental Al Faisaliah, Riyadh.
The hotel has 321 guestrooms and suites, with new interiors designed by Adam Tihany. There will be a variety of refreshed restaurants, lounges and bars, including a top-floor venue. Function spaces will cater to social events and business meetings, while an indoor swimming pool, male and female spa areas and a fitness center complete the leisure facilities.
The Al Faisaliah Hotel is in the heart of the Central Business District of Riyadh, providing easy access to corporate offices, government buildings, high-end shopping, restaurants and cafés. It is part of the mixed-use Al Faisaliah Centre.
Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich
In addition, Mandarin Oriental will manage and re-brand the historic Savoy Baur en Ville hotel in Zurich, from 2024. The hotel, which first opened in 1838, is a landmark property on Paradeplatz, the main square in the city center. It is located in the heart of the old town, within the main business center, close to the city’s leisure attractions and a short walk from the shores of Lake Zurich.
In 2022, the hotel will close and undergo a two-year renovation. Upon completion, it will reopen as Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich. The hotel will have 80 guestrooms and suites and three dining outlets, comprising an all-day dining venue, a specialty restaurant and a lobby lounge. The renovation will enhance conference and event facilities, including a grand ballroom. In addition, a state-of-the-art fitness center will be installed. French interior designer, Tristan Auer, Paris has been appointed to oversee the full design.
