Banyan Tree Mayakoba to Show Off $50 Million Expansion in December

Mexico, one of the few countries admitting Americans, is having a moment. Travelers comfortable with flying south of the border should know that Banyan Tree Mayakoba, an all-pool villa resort in the Riviera Maya, is undergoing a $50 million expansion. What’s of note? This December, the resort will be opening new Beachfront Pool Suites and an expanded Sands Beach Club. Then, next year, Banyan Tree Mayakoba will debut its first overwater villas.

Thre new Beachfront Pool Suites span from 1,740 to 3,155 square feet with an interior patio, outdoor shower and whirlpool bathtub, as well as a private solarium with a heated private plunge pool. As for the expanded Sands Beach Club, it will encompass a larger oceanfront pool and all-day dining oceanfront fish market, along with a restaurant and adjacent chic raw bar. The club also has a beachfront lounge and library, a larger interactive Rangers Club for kids with a pool, and ocean-view massage rooms operated by the Banyan Tree Spa.

Tip: At the Banyan Tree Spa—with all therapists from Thai provinces—the top signature treatment is the Rainforest Experience. It is an invigorating hydrothermal experience to stimulate the senses.

A highlight of the renovation will be the resort’s first overwater villas, located in the lagoon and set to debut in June 2021. Two-story villas span 2,385 square feet with an open layout and an indoor-outdoor atmosphere. The king bedroom extends to an outdoor shower and whirlpool bathtub, while a private solarium offers a sunset-view heated plunge pool.

Banyan Tree Mayakoba is touted as the only all-pool villa resort in Riviera Maya. Culinary experiences range from authentic Thai cuisine to fresh seafood and contemporary Mexican fare. Try the HAAB Maya Dining, a deep-in-the-jungle experience, where you can relive the culinary arts of the ancient Maya civilization. Or, opt for the trajinera, named after the moon goddess Ixchel, to savor dishes aboard a romantic boat ride.
