When we visited Origins Lodge in Costa Rica, the team teased that it had plans to open new properties—one located adjacent to the current resort geared towards families with the other located closer to hot springs, leaning even more into the wellness component. Well, Luxury Travel Advisor has just received word that the first of these two will open this November.
Origins Astral Luxury Lodge, located in the northern part of the volcano chain in Bijagua (and about 20 minutes by car from the original Origins Lodge), “will represent a true journey through the cosmos.” The lodge will offer seven villas with two to four guestrooms and it well-suited for wellness retreats, families and groups of friends, complementing the original Origins Lodge, which is more focused on couples and honeymooners.
Located between the Miravalles and Tenorio volcanoes, Origins Astral Lodge offers breathtaking views stretching all the way to Lake Nicaragua (much like its sister property), which have inspired the aesthetic concept for the retreat. The design was conceived by global design and architecture firm Gensler, with input from the Origins team and local architectural expertise from Mario Aviles.
Origins Astral sits at an elevation of 2,600 feet and reportedly offer 360-degree views of the surrounding rainforest. This location also brings guests closer to the sky and cosmos, hence the property’s name. Continuing that theme, the colors and patterns found across the property are inspired by the planets within the solar system, while the lighting fixtures are evocative of constellations. Other design details include meteorites emerging from the walls and satellite ring-inspired patterns on room ceilings, as well as a cloud-shaped mesh mobile suspended in the reception. The Kids Club will also feature surprises related to the Lodge’s astral and cosmic themes that intend to spark creativity.
One of the pillars of the new lodge retreat is “Luxury Unveiled,” which aims to “redefine traditional notions of luxury by integrating locally sourced details and embracing the natural environment.” Here, Origins Luxury Lodges says, “luxury is not about opulence but rather the abundance of nature.”
Origins Astral Lodge, like its parent company, is deeply committed to sustainability and local community involvement. More than 80 percent of all the furniture and equipment within the lodge are crafted at the Origins workshop on the property with wood predominantly sourced from trees that have naturally fallen during past storms. Decorative objects throughout the lodge are hand-made by various local artisans including the native Maleku community, integrating authentic cultural elements into the design.
Once operational, Origins Astral Lodge will employ staff members from the surrounding area. The hotel is also collaborating with government technical schools to develop a training program, ensuring a career path for residents and contributing to educational advancement.
In addition, Origins Astral Lodge offers a farm-to-table culinary experience at El Cosmo, where guests can visit the lodge's own garden as part of their dining experience. =
With this new addition, the debut property Origins Lodge has been rebranded as Origins Floral Lodge. This nature-focused lodge opened in 2018, and it set on 111 acres of private rainforest.
