Marriott International has opened The Dali Edition in Yunnan Province, bringing its Edition lifestyle brand to one of Southwest China's fastest-growing leisure destinations and expanding the company's luxury footprint in the region.
The hotel, part of Marriott Bonvoy's portfolio, sits at an elevation of 2,090 meters along the slopes of Cangshan Mountain, overlooking Erhai Lake. It marks the third Edition property in Greater China and, by Marriott's count, the 23rd destination in Edition's global collection. The property is located roughly 23 kilometers from Dali Railway Station and 39 kilometers from Dali Fengyi Airport, positioning it within reach of the Cangshan Mountain Scenic Area, the Three Pagodas, and Dali Old Town.
The Dali Edition features 151 rooms and suites, including a collection of private villas with swimming pools. Designed by Shenzhen Cheng Chung Design, the property draws on regional materials including aged timber, bluestone, and Erhai Lake pebbles, with expansive glazing and open layouts orienting most rooms toward views of the lake or mountain. Guest rooms begin at 60 square meters, with bathrooms finished in white stone and featuring sunken soaking tubs. The 250-square-meter Presidential Suite includes an indoor pool, private courtyard, and terrace, with ceilings rising more than five meters anchored by a suspended fireplace and a sculptural stone chandelier.
Dining venues emphasize seasonality and local sourcing, with ingredients drawn from the hotel's vegetable garden and fruit orchard. Market at Edition offers all-day, farm-to-table dining; KUSHO centers on wood-fired cooking using local hardwood charcoal; and the brand's signature Lobby Bar transitions from tea service to evening cocktails. A Chinese Restaurant incorporates elements of Bai architecture, while a Tea House on the grounds hosts a tea ritual the hotel calls Trail of the Tea Horse: A Harvest Journey.
For events, the property offers a Grand Ballroom with an adjoining lawn and four meeting studios. Wellness facilities include a spa with five private treatment rooms, a gym with an indoor-outdoor yoga terrace, and a 25-meter indoor swimming pool. The hotel also curates guided experiences ranging from foraging journeys and mushroom hunts to sunrise jogs and sound bath sessions.
"Dali carries a remarkable identity, shaped over centuries by exchange, artistry, and landscape," said George Fleck, senior vice president and global brand leader of Edition. "With The Dali Edition, we saw an opportunity to honor that history while introducing a distinctly contemporary point of view—one that reflects Edition's continued, thoughtful growth in China and our belief in creating places that feel both grounded and of the moment."
"The opening of The Dali Edition marks our third Edition hotel in Greater China, underscoring the brand's growing presence in the region," said Bart Buiring, Marriott International's managing director of luxury for Greater China. "Set within one of China's most culturally distinctive destinations, the hotel reflects a shift toward travel experiences that are deeply rooted in place while shaped by contemporary design and global perspective."
Francine Ong has been named general manager of the property.
