Faarufushi Maldives to Open in March

There’s no better way to shake a case of the winter blues than plan an exotic escape—preferably where the beaches are powdery and white and edged by the crystal-clear sea. With its dreamy scenery, the Maldives checks the boxes—plus this island nation continues to lure the international jetset to trendsetting luxury resorts that up the ante with over-the-top amenities. The latest to cross our radar is Faarufushi Maldives, situated in the northern Raa Atoll. Slated to open in March as a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, this private island resort will have 80 contemporary villas situated on both the beach and over the lagoon. Faarufushi is accessed by seaplane (a 50-minute flight) from the international airport.

To make the most out of this island playground, Faarufushi Maldives will have a dive center and water sports facilities. The Faarufushi reef is teeming with marine life, making for abundant opportunities for guests to explore this colorful underwater world. Also on the itinerary: Sunset sails, dolphin watching, deep sea fishing excursions, kayaking and paddle boarding.

Feeling lazy? Relax by the infinity pool or head to the hotel’s Nika Spa, designed as a garden oasis with six treatment rooms surrounded by lush greenery. (You’ll also be able to appreciate the gardens from the outdoor lounges and hydro pool.) When it comes to eating and drinking, there will be three restaurants and two bars to choose from—including an overwater bar perfect for sunset cocktails. Need to stay connected? There will be complimentary island-wide Wi-Fi.
