Farmhouse Inn in Sonoma County has renovated three of its cottages. What began as a classic American farmhouse first built in 1873 opened as the boutique hotel, Farmhouse Inn, in 1981 with just six rooms and has since expanded its offerings to 25 rooms.
The property is sporting two renovated Cottage Petite Suites, a new room category, besides another Cottage, which are part of the original structure and are more than 100 years old. The new cottages have painted finishes of white, gray and black, complementing classic furniture with ticking stripes, four-poster beds and locally made rustic linen drapes. The materials are historically accurate to a farmhouse, but the cleaner lines and minimal furnishings lend them a modern appeal. In the Cottage Petite Suites spanning 550 square feet, guests enjoy a king-size four-poster bed besides a second sleeping area with a full-size bed separated by a barn door along with a gas fireplace.
One of the Cottage Petite Suites offers a connecting option with a Cottage room for those looking for multiple bedrooms. Bathrooms have Carrera marble mixed with ceramic subway tiles, footed soaking tubs, steam showers, heated marble floors and furniture-like vanities. The suites sport large windows, sliding doors and outdoor patios with private entrances.
At 350 square feet, the recently renovated Cottage offers similar amenities as the suites in a cozier environment. As with the five other Cottages on property, these rooms have a gas fireplace with a sitting area, steam shower, heated marble floors, a soaking tub and an outdoor patio with a private entrance. It can also connect to one of the Petite Suites and accommodate up to five guests traveling together.
Gina Gattuso and Lisa North of Myra Hoefer Design drew inspiration from classic old farm estates with cottages that mimic the style of grand farmhouses but are humble in presentation.
