Report: Four Seasons to Take Over Venice’s Hotel Danieli

Four Seasons will be making its Venice debut in 2024 when it reflags Hotel Danieli (currently a member of Marriott International’s Luxury Collection). It will become the fourth Four Seasons in Italy, joining its properties in Florence, Milan and Taormina in Sicily.

According to Italy’s L’Economia, Four Seasons has already tabbed designer Pierre-Yves Rochon with the renovation and redesign of the building—touted as the oldest hotel in Venice (operating uninterrupted for 200 years). The €30 million (approximately $34 million) renovation will cover all 204 guestrooms.

Although they did not confirm the report, a spokesperson for Four Seasons told Luxury Travel Advisor, Four Seasons is "always looking for new opportunities to expand our presence in Italy. Venice, Rome, Tuscany, Lake Como, the Amalfi Coast, Sardinia and Capri are all important destinations for us, and we continue to focus our pipeline on these markets to secure the right projects with the best partners."

Hotel Danieli first opened as Palazzo Dandolo at the end of the 14th century. The hotel's main building is close to St. Mark’s Square, with the rear facade on the Riva degli Schiavoni's quayside promenade, overlooking the Saint Mark's Basin. It is adjoined to a number of buildings, dating from the 14th, 17th and 19th centuries. Venetian Giuseppe Dal Niel in 1824, bought the entire building, restored it and converted it into a hotel.

The building is known for its pink façade with marble sills, white turrets and balconies with pointed arches. A highlight of the property is its four-story courtyard, which is covered with Byzantine Gothic-style arches. The hotel's rooms and suites are spread through a central building and its three wings, with options facing the lagoon in the original wing of the hotel and large rooms located in the 19th-century palazzo. Currently, the Doge Dandolo Royal Suite is the top accommodation.
