Hotel Hana Opens in Paris

Hotel Hana has made its debut in Paris. Located in the heart of the capital between Opéra Garnier and Palais Brongniart, the hotel has been designed by Laura Gonzalez and Olivier Leone. Gonzalez and Leone "reimagined" the former office block and took inspiration from the surrounding Japanese quarter to blend a minimalist Japanese style with references to Paris’ Belle Époque.

The 26 rooms, including one suite, all showcase straw walls and iroko wood. The color palette comprises earthy shades of terracotta, mustard, rust orange and prune, the hotel’s signature color. Bedside tables and nightstands have been finished in a glossy Japanese lacquer, while soft furnishings such as poufs and bolsters add a touch of Gonzalez’s signature bold floral style. While some rooms showcase Laura Gonzalez-designed and Pierre Frey-reproduced rugs over parquet flooring, others have handcrafted carpets designed by French textile artist, Marguerite Le Maire, who turns to the customized techniques of local spinning and dyeing companies.

Shirley Garrier of The Social Food, a creative studio specializing in food design, styling and photography, will create a menu that combines French classics with Japanese influences at Hanabi restaurant. The menu at the cocktail bar will be led by Garrier’s partner, Mathieu Zouhairi, offering a curated collection of sake and cocktails using only Japanese and French alcohol. In-room minibars are stocked with thoughtful tastes of place, including organic Genmaicha green tea from Japan; a chocolate bar from Encuentro, one of the few chocolatiers in France to produce chocolate using an artisanal bean-to-bar; sparkling yuzu juice that is made with hand-picked yuzu from Shikoku Island; and Kirin Ichiban beer. Guests will also be welcomed with madeleines in matcha and sesame flavors.

The property’s sister hotel, the Anouska Hempel-designed Monsieur George Hotel & Spa, is located in the 8th arrondissement.
