Introducing: Château de la Commaraine in Burgundy

Château de la Commaraine, an estate dating to 1112 in the Burgundy wine region, will open its doors late 2025 completely refurbished as a five-star hotel, following a four-year renovation. The 37-room property is fully immersed within the vineyards on an estate spanning nine acres; the resort houses a spa, pool, two restaurants and a winery open to visitors. Set in the Pommard village, just two and a half miles from Burgundy’s wine capital of Beaune, Château de la Commaraine’s renovations blend historic elements with contemporary interiors.

Good to know: A variety of the 37 rooms and suites offer views of the vines, with one overlooking the vat room. The property also includes a private four-bedroom residence, complete with its own private tasting room.

On-property, guests can sample a variety of wines and cocktails at the bar, located within the Château tower, built in the 14th century, and savor French cuisine at two dining venues, a restaurant located in the original cellar and a bistro. For guests looking to enjoy the outdoors, the property has two terraces and a 60-foot heated pool. Guests can also take advantage of the 24/7 fitness center, unwind at the spa or enjoy winery experiences on-site like joining daily viticulture activities with the team, participating in tastings, visiting the cuverie or simply observing the wine-making process from their room. Off-property, the Château de la Commaraine team can arrange a “Wine Safari” to various local vineyards with tastings in the cellars, hot air balloon rides over the vineyards, biking through the surrounding villages and abbeys of Burgundy, sailings on the Canal du Centre and more.

Château de la Commaraine is located in Pommard, a village in the Côte d’Or subregion of Burgundy, with a winemaking history dating to the Roman times. Pommard’s climates, including those of Le Clos de la Commaraine, were listed UNESCO World Heritage in 2015 and are known for producing some of the finest red wines in Burgundy, particularly Pinot Noir. Pommard is a key name in Burgundy with many of its vineyards classified as Premier Cru and its wines sought after by collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.

The Château was originally built as a fortified manor owned by the dukes of Burgundy, then by various noble families over the centuries, and now serves as a working winery and luxury wine tourism destination, offering visitors a glimpse into its history and winemaking traditions.

Château de la Commaraine will debut as part of the Champagne Hospitality collection of properties, known for Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa and Le Barth Villa Rental on the island of Saint Barthélemy, Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa located in Champagne, and 25Bis by Leclerc Briant, a guest house in an 18th-century residence in Epernay.
