Following the South African government’s decision to allow international travel to return to Cape Town International Airport, Leeu Collection announced it is to reopen its Cape Winelands properties (which have been closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic) in phases, following some upgrades and renovations.
Some of the upgrades were led by Leeu Collection founder Analjit Singh. For example, Singh pinpointing places to create dedicated outdoor seating, landscaping and picnic areas (beside the river and in the Bokkie Garden). Leeu Estates, the amalgamation of four farms, is now complete: Sites were identified for olive groves (with nearly 900 trees), orchards and an herb garden. The overall vineyard acreage was also doubled.
Additionally, Leeu Collection has reached an agreement with world-class South African spa brand Healing Earth to manage Leeu Spa. Healing Earth specializes in the creation of multi-sensory spa and wellbeing experiences, as well as fully immersive holistic packages “to facilitate a harmonious connection between mind and body.”
Leeu Estates
The rooms at all three properties have been renovated and upgraded; plus, six new rooms and cottages were created on Leeu Estates. The terrace at the Manor House on the Estates has also been extended into an expansive wooden deck, giving guests more space to enjoy the views of the Franschhoek Valley. The gardens at Le Quartier Français have also been redone.
Tip: Two helipads have been built at Leeu Estates for fast, secluded transfers from Cape Town.
The auberge Le Quartier Français will reopen first, on October 15, with Leeu House (just a couple of doors away in the heart of Franschhoek) taking bookings the following week, from October 23. Leeu Collection’s third property, the flagship Leeu Estates on the outskirts of Franschhoek, will reopen its rooms to guests on December 4; however, elements of the Estates, such as the Leeu Spa by Healing Earth, the Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines Tasting Studio and the restaurant Le Petite Colombe will open earlier, on November 6, for day visitors.
