Mallorca’s Hotel Castillo Son Vida Unveils New Spa

There’s a reason that Mallorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, is such a popular Mediterranean destination. Pretty beaches, crystal clear waters and chains of mountain peaks are an allure in their own right, but then there’s the intriguing city of Palma de Mallorca, graced with atmospheric alleyways and a landmark sandstone cathedral.

There are some attractive five-star hotel options in Palma. Located high above the city, the Hotel Castillo Son Vida, a Luxury Collection Hotel, has a privileged perch overlooking this culture capital with the sparkling blue sea beyond. (Its self-proclaimed nickname? “The Balcony of Mallorca.”)

The estate itself was built in the 13th century, and lush gardens surround the hotel, which has 164 rooms and suites, including the LOEWE suite decorated by Spanish designer Enrique Loewe. Castillo Son Vida is popular with golfers (who practice their drive on the four neighboring courses), wedding parties (there are nine different rooms for meetings/events), and families with children in tow (the Kids Club is well equipped).

In the latest news from Castillo Son Vida, the hotel has unveiled a brand new spa encompassing more than 10,700 square feet. The result of 10 months of construction work, the Son Vida Spa has a fitness center with personal trainers, a hair salon and an indoor pool. The four treatment rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows taking in views of the surrounding landscape. The spa menu features signature therapies by DEMARÉS and Maria Galland. The saunas and wet facilities are meant for lingering; there’s a Finnish sauna, steam room, plunge pool, jacuzzi and ice fountain.
