When the Quirk Hotel first opened in September 2015 on Broad Street in Virginia’s capital, it became a symbol of Richmond’s renaissance. Urbanites flocked to the happening rooftop bar, art gallery and signature restaurant called Maple & Pine. A historic city landmark, the former J.B. Mosby & Co department store, was converted into a design-centric hotel that made waves way beyond Virginia’s borders. Now, Quirk is expanding to Charlottesville with a new hotel that’s slated to open in March 2020.
Like the original Quirk, the Charlottesville property will have an in-house art gallery featuring contemporary works by artists from across the country. The gallery will host events and workshops, with an additional retail space offering unique gifts and trunk shows. Guests will also be able to admire art by local artists decorating the hotel rooms and public spaces. Also, like the Quirk Hotel in Richmond, the C-ville hotel aims to be a gathering place for the local community with its restaurant, rooftop and event space.
Try seasonal Virginia cuisine at the Pink Grouse, pick your poison at the barrel aged spirits bar or head to the rooftop for a cocktail with views of Charlottesville and the Blue Ridge Mountains. In fact, the Quirk Rooftop aims to become a happening city hub with events and attractions staged throughout the year; think fire pits, seasonal igloos and a “DIY” Aperol Spritz bar.
The Quirk Hotel Charlottesville has been built around two 18th-century homes. It will have 80 guestrooms decorated in a minimalist, contemporary style. In-room touches include minibars stocked with local treats and headboards custom designed by Kiki Slaughter. Note that the boutique hotel has a partnership with nearby Neroli Spa and Laurie Nicole’s beauty salon.
