Savoy Palace, the only Leading Hotels of the World affiliate on the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira, opened July 1. Savoy Palace, in the capital city of Funchal, has been constructed on the site of what was previously the Savoy Hotel. Amenities include 352 rooms and suites (some of which are ocean-facing), a rooftop lounge with panoramic views, terraced gardens, meeting spaces, multiple pools, several restaurants and bars, as well as a "boutique-hotel-within-a-hotel" offering exclusive penthouse accommodations. The interiors were signed by Nini Andrade Silva, one of Madeira’s most renowned interior designers, in partnership with RH+ Arquitectos.
Good to know: The Pool Ocean Suite has a private plunge pool, while the Presidential Suite has an indoor/outdoor pool, an open-plan kitchen, a lounge and dining room.
The hotel houses a 33,000 square-foot spa with 11 treatment rooms, a halo therapy room, sensory showers, ice fountain, Turkish hammam, beauty bar and more. The treatment menu includes a selection of signature facials, massages and holistic healing rituals inspired by the Laurissilva Forest, Madeira’s UNESCO World Heritage site.
Dining at Savoy Palace includes the Source brasserie, SkyFood panoramic restaurant, White Orchid buffet restaurant, poolside terrace and teahouse. A number of these will have outdoor wrap-around terraces and show kitchens.
Madeira Island is currently known for adventure activities—from hiking, canyoning and paragliding to the destination’s notable street tobogganing. It is also known for its wine and lush landscapes. The Atlantic archipelago also offers an annual calendar saturated with festivities, like The Carnival, the Flower Festival and the Madeira Wine Festival along with the Madeira New Year's Eve fireworks display, which holds a Guinness World Record.
Savoy Palace is located 20 minutes from the Madeira Airport.
