Update on the Langham Boston’s Renovation

Located at 250 Franklin Street in the Financial District, The Langham, Boston occupies a national architectural landmark that was once home to the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. The luxury hotel closed in April 2019 to undergo a comprehensive renovation that's expected to wrap by summer 2020. As we reported last year, the project’s goal is to reposition the property as one of the “top iconic luxury hotels in the country.” Now we have new details to share.

The makeover involves all guestrooms, public spaces and event rooms, alongside the creation of new facilities. Dyer Brown, the Boston-based architectural firm, is working to retain the original architectural features of the historic building, while Richmond International, the acclaimed interior design studio, is overseeing the decor. (Richmond International also created the interior design for sister properties The Langham, London and The Langham, Chicago.)

The new look will be evident on arrival. A grand new entrance will show off slate awnings and new lighting to illuminate the façade. Inside, expect a chicly redesigned lobby with a fireplace. Art by famous local artists will adorn the walls throughout the hotel. All guest rooms and suites will be refurbished with a lighter color palette, New England-style decor and new white marble bathrooms. This room redesign extends to the luxury penthouse known as the Chairman’s Suite, complete with dining room, kitchen and living room with baby grand piano.

New facilities will include the Club Lounge; the light-filled Lincoln Ballroom, accommodating 200 guests; a bar with outdoor terrace; and a destination restaurant concept, developed in collaboration with the London-based Gorgeous Group. Michele Grosso is the managing director of The Langham, Boston.
