Velas Resorts Unveils New “Mojiganga Wedding Experience”

Velas Resorts is offering a new “Mojiganga Wedding Experience” for couples. Mojigangas, deeply rooted in Mexican cultural heritage, are vibrant puppets crafted from papier-mâché and carry a rich history and multifaceted significance that dates to the colonial era. Often seen in processions, parades and especially at weddings, Mojigangas are said to both attract good fortune and ward off evil. Standing over six feet tall, these figures are crafted using cardboard, with a person inside managing their movements.

At weddings, Mojigangas also commemorate the love of the couple, where they often lead parades with the bride and groom. In this resort wedding concept, Velas Resorts brings the tradition to life by creating bespoke Mojigangas that represent the bride and groom, adding a personalized, whimsical touch to the celebrations. Available at its properties in Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit and Los Cabos, the experience also includes an all-female mariachi, deluxe taco tasting with Golden Ranch Water and a fireworks show to conclude the evening.

The celebration kicks off with the Mojigangas leading a colorful parade through the resort, allowing guests to celebrate the spirit of Mexican tradition with the larger-than-life recreations of the couple. As the bride and groom puppets navigate the resort grounds, guests are enveloped in the cultural richness and festive energy.

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, the Mariachi Femenil Estrellas de América, a talented group of female mariachis from Guadalajara, will accompany guests with traditional Mexican music. Mariachi is a music deeply rooted in Mexican culture and has been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. While mariachi is its own musical genre, today, mariachi covers many other genres, including dance, classical, romance and folk—any of which can be used for the group’s customized tune.

A deluxe taco tasting showcases the authentic flavors from various regions of Mexico. Additionally, the tasting includes Golden Ranch Water cocktails. Complete with 24K edible gold flakes, the cocktail is both glittery and spicy with jalapeño and tajin (chili salt) complementing the fresh lime, tequila and sparkling mineral water.

The celebration culminates with a 15-minute fireworks display set against the backdrop of the ocean.
