W Hotels Goes Back to Australia With New Opening

(Marriott International)

W Hotels has re-entered Australia with the opening of W Brisbane. Owned by Shayher Group, the new property in South East Queensland will place guests in the city’s Central Business District overlooking the Brisbane River.

Australian interior design agency Nic Graham & Associates is behind the design and furnishings in W Brisbane. The hotel brings to life the theme of “A River Dreaming,” an ode to its locale on the banks of the Brisbane River through artwork from celebrated Australian artists, including John Nicholson, Lucas Grogan and Reko Rennie are displayed.

Local design features include a staircase of timber river reeds that leads guests to the Welcome Desk and the Living Room. Australian Outback tones start from the entrance and continue throughout the hotel’s public spaces. In each of the 312 rooms (including 32 suites), there is a white wall inspired by VJ wall panels found on traditional “Queenslander” homes and a 10-gallon drum “outback bath experience.” The Extreme Wow Suite, on the 33rd floor, has a panoramic vista from the river to the mountains and beyond.

Dining Experiences

W Brisbane has three dining venues. Three Blue Ducks, the hotel’s signature restaurant and a first for Queensland, mixes Brisbane’s culture with The Ducks "paddock-to-plate" ethos. Guests can expect a seasonal menu with local influences. The Living Room Bar evolves from a daytime lounge to a cocktail bar by night where guests can enjoy drinks from the Liquid Curator who will be mixing up an array of handcrafted cocktails. Lastly, guests can relax poolside at the WET Deck rooftop bar as they hang out on the sun loungers.

Guests can detox, de-stress and relax at the AWAY Spa, offering a treatment menu of Sodashi and Skeyndor facials and massages in addition to beauty treatments. AWAY offers vitality pools, relaxation pods, “His and Hers” salt inhalation chambers and aromatherapy steam rooms. AWAY Spa will also be home to Edwards And Co. hair salon, which makes its Brisbane debut. The hotel also offers a FIT gym complete with Technogym equipment and resident Personal Trainers.
