Natural Habitat Adventures says it has created the world’s first zero-waste adventure. At the beginning of July of next year, more than 10 travelers will be joining this initiative. The mission is to reuse, recycle, compost or upcycle 99 percent or more of all waste created in Nat Hab-sponsored trip operations.

From this program, all waste will go into a single small container instead of a landfill. Travelers will be encouraged to go green by declining disposable straws or individually packaged condiments to minimize the level of waste produced on the trip.

Travelers will get a zero-waste toolkit that has reusable water bottles, mugs, cutlery and tote bags. They will also be transporting packed meals in reusable containers, recycling single-use packaging--including hard-to-recycle items through TerraCycle--composting napkins and buying food in bulk.

Luxury Travel Advisor’s ULTRA Summit

May 21-23, 2019 | Reunion | Kissimmee, FL

This exclusive, invite-only event focused on the luxury travel market brings together world-class travel agency owners and managers with the most opulent, luxury suppliers to cultivate collaboration, share insights, and help carve a path into the future of luxury travel.

Nat Hab says this ecological feat is not easy, but the company is dedicated to making a new standard for the travel industry. The hope is to show by example, to demonstrate that it is possible to do an excursion without creating waste.

The company says it became the world’s first carbon-neutral travel company eleven years ago, and that its carbon offset program has offset over 34.5 million pounds of CO2 emissions generated on its global nature adventures.

Note: This program does not include waste that involves personal hygiene items, poses safety risks, is legally required to be sent to a landfill, or comes from guest actions away from NHA’s control.
