Recent research by MMGY Travel Intelligence shows that, while travelers are still concerned about travel at the moment, domestic travel will likely rebound before international travel. The good news, however, is according to its most recent Travel Intentions Pulse Survey, in conjunction with the U.S. Travel Association, more than half of U.S. travelers are eager for leisure travel. That’s why Luxury Travel Advisor has gathered some intel on a couple of “local” luxury ranches.
The Resort at Paws Up in Montana is in the construction phases of The Green O, its new adults-only woodland retreat set on 37,000 acres (now slated for a September 1 opening). The resort-within-a-resort, touted as “Glamping 2.0,” is set along a river that runs through the property; it will have 12 accommodations — from an elevated Tree Haus to a Green Haus with a living roof — all with floor-to-ceiling windows. The units will be scattered amongst the woodlands, circling a central Social Haus, which will have open-fire cooking.
Note: The governor of Montana has named hotels and resorts an essential business, so The Resort at Paws Up remains open and is welcoming guests, as long as guests quarantine themselves on property upon arrival. New safety guidelines include bringing activities to guests — like dropping off an ATV or e-bike or arranging socially distant guides — and leaving a sanitized Lexus at the airport for guests to drive to the resort (following a bellman in a separate vehicle).

Another Montana resort, The Ranch at Rock Creek has plenty of new activities available for guests. One that caught our eye are the High-Mountain Adventures. On these hiking and advanced horseback riding trips to high-mountain lakes in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, guests will have the option to go fishing upon reaching their destination (or they can simple take in the views from the journey). Fuse Lake is an “angler’s dream” due to the Arctic grayling, the only fish species to inhabit the lake; even further afield lies Twin Lakes, home to rainbow and cutbow trout.
Also new for this summer is Ride-Along with a Rancher. For guests interested in a behind-the-scenes experience, they can join the resort’s Ranch Manager for a few hours as he tends to his daily tasks across the 6,600 acres. Learn the 127-year-old history of the homestead and what it takes to run a modern cow-calf operation. This experience changes daily based on the Ranch Manager’s tasks and the interests of the guests: During calving season, you might check on newborn calves or, during the cooler months, you might head out to feed hay to the herd; experienced riders can learn cattle sorting. Pretty cool!
