Editor's Note: Travel’s “Well, Golly Gee” Wake-Up Call to You

Have your ears been tingling? Phone ringing off the hook?

It’s been hard to miss the news fervor in recent months: Did you know? Travel advisors are in more demand than ever. The Wall Street Journal reports the appeal of travel advisors is increasing. Air Mail notes travel advisors are the trusted source able to cut through the you-know-what in an era of AI-generated listicles and shady reviews. Bloomberg last year highlighted LinkedIn data showing travel advisors were the fifth-fastest-growing profession.

Well, golly gee. Tell us something we didn’t know.

Despite years of major hotel brands and airlines positioning their direct-to-consumer loyalty programs as key travel currency — and even online travel agencies like Expedia and Kayak taking a piece of the pie — these are no substitute for advisors. You’ve known it. We’ve known it. And now it seems like more of the world is waking up to it. Now’s your time to shine.

Loyalty programs are constantly getting devalued, and travelers want to feel rewarded when they travel — even if they haven’t stayed 60 nights that year with a particular brand or flown six times around the world with any given airline. That’s an opportunity advisors provide that more travelers need to discover. Travelers are craving a getaway that isn’t getting fed to everyone on their grid, and a well-connected advisor knows all the hidden spots that somehow remain hidden at a time when just about everything gets a social blast.

We have a lot of summer inspiration in this issue (summer at Shangri-La Paris, anyone? Or how about in fabulous Saint-Tropez or Riviera Maya?), but the most inspiring thing is that now is a moment for advisors to thrive more than ever. So, are you ready to seize the opportunity? Let’s get to it.
